Where did it all start?
Well, with a lifelong commitment to help others! I became a peer mediator in school and completed a children's version of a childline based course at around the age of 11. Even by this point I was renowned for being a chatter box! I went on to become a peer mentor after completing another programme with a local charity. The purpose of this was to provide information, support and guidance to young people accessing the service.
Following on from here, I have been privileged enough to dip toes into other roles which included supporting individuals. My favourite would be supporting the running of a baby weighing clinic. It was wonderful just to meet and talk with all those new mother's, during a huge point of transition. I am pretty passionate about babies and children, and one half of my life is dedicated to working in complex children's care which is rewarding in ways I can never seem to get across! You may start to see an emerging pattern here. Of course, I am extremely passionate about women, children, families in general and absolutely love the work that I do for the NHS but the other side of me absolutely needs to be doing a little bit more. A bit more in terms of psychology, doing a little bit more in terms of helping people to move through trauma and heal parts of themselves that they're living with. Moving people from really difficult spaces in their life and empowering them to find the grasses greener. I guess, and I don't really like that phrase - but the grass really is greener, when you have the right support and tools around you.
Many of us will find ourselves in a bit of a black hole at some point in our lives, and the reasons for that will be very different for each person. And the way that we leave that black hole is also very different but I But I certainly want to be part of helping people to climb out of their black holes and find joy in life again.
Years pass and as an avid reader I found myself gearing towards psychology books, often spending late nights reading publications on treating mental health.
So I took the plunge and I went back to learning, the wonderful world of Hypnotherapy!
I'm sure my school leavers book said 'most likely to be a social worker', but I'm not far out I guess it's still supporting families and helping people so I'm really happy with that.
I am nowhere near done yet, I am still learning and growing and working out what this trajectory looks like for me but certainly for the moment, I'm loving every moment of it.
I have had a pretty interesting lengthy history where it comes to offering people support and guidance. I have lots of ideas and I have a rich tapestry of my own life which I feel like really helps me to engage in a diverse way.
If there's any questions that spring to mind as you read this. I would invite your honesty and I would love to know what's ticking in your brain as you read this post. Is there something you would like to know?
