Most people need a therapist, I would say at least multiple times in their lives.
I have come to think perhaps that we should reframe the way we view therapy and therapists..
Or perhaps we need to reframe the words 'I have a problem' into 'I want to change my life'.
It's simple. Therapy helps us to help ourselves.
This is as much about allowing ourselves space to think in an order which makes sense - as it can also allow us to move through some of life's most painful experiences.
Who do we go to when we get sick, someone who can help, right?
We need some car maintenance, we go to the garage..
So what if we view therapy as our essential maintenance?
How many people do you know who have spent a life having never recovered from an event, or developing a life long harmful behaviours due to not being able to process emotions in a healthy way? Or perhaps life limited by fear or phobia.. ? It doesn't have to be that way!
Having a therapist is something to be proud of, a willingness to accept change is life changing!
Perhaps it takes a bit more of the un-doing to get people to feel comfortable admitting they need help - because they fear being 'broken' or 'defected' the sad part is, un-doing can happen so beautifully in a supported process with your therapist!
So then I write in protest.. dear reader.. tell someone about therapy today - tell them something you'd like help with - make it the normal that it is when you need to take your car into the garage, infact moan about it if this helps!
We share buzzwords and campaigns online in support of more talking - well, let's get going then.. with your therapist.
